Who You Say I Am

Identity. It seems that the majority of the human race has struggled with this topic since the great fall of man. For centuries we’ve often wondered, “Who am I?”.

We nervously spout out our God-given birth names, a laundry-list of accomplishments we’ve made and throw out a few of our personal interests in hopes of safely landing near an explanation of who we are as individuals. But is there more to who we are than what we’ve done? For many, that is a resounding, “No“, especially for those of us bound by active dependency. An age old fable passed down throughout time is that we are what we’ve done. Nothing could be further from the truth.

“If a man bakes a cake, is he then a baker?” — Unknown

All too often, we look for ourselves in our relationships with others, our careers, our desires, and our addictions. We become so ingrained in them that we begin to lose sight of who we were meant to be and identify by the things we do. We lose touch with ourselves and reality altogether. We believe the lie. We live a lie.

Until we re-connect to Truth, we can’t know the truth. We cannot know the very core of our being until we know Who Jesus Christ is, for we did not create ourselves; He did. The truth is, we are what Jesus done on the Cross. We are who Jesus says we are in His Word – not who the devil accuses us of being. The Bible says you are:

•The apple of God’s Eye (Zechariah 2:8)
•Fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
•Precious to God (Isaiah 43:4)
•Cared about since your conception (Isaiah 46:3)
•God’s child (John 1:12)
•Jesus’ friend (John 15:15)
•Chosen by Jesus (John 15:16)
•Loved dearly by God (John 16:27)
•Free from condemnation (Romans 8:1)
•The temple of God’s Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16)
•Redeemed & forgiven for all your sins (Colossians 1:14)

You are somebody! And not just anybody; yet, somebody worth the sacrifice of what was most precious to God Himself: His only begotten Son. A man doesn’t just give up His Own life and Own Son for just a regular ol’ nobody. That must mean you’re pretty darn special.

Next time someone asks you who you are, remember who God says you are. His opinion is the only one that truly matters, because it’s the only one that is the Truth.

  1. Wonderfully said!! As we grow in Christ we find our true identity! There is no greater feeling! Keep reaching, keep pursuing and we all should aspire to be known through Him and by Him! His opinion is the only one that matter!! Love this!! 😁
